Day One
Welcome to Surviving Music Education: Providing current and future music educators and general musicians with insight from the collegiate point of view! I'm glad your search engine brought you here. First, I'll tell you a little about myself. I'm a sophomore music ed. major with a Spanish minor. I play the flute and just as my neighbors will tell you, the piccolo as well. I have only played the flute for three years--I began on the trumpet; however, the flute captured my heart. I guess I'm your typical "success story" because I learned how to play off of YouTube by following Nina Perlove's videos (I will upload some links soon). So all of the people out there that criticize YouTube-don't, because it really is educational...well, sometimes at least. But enough on that if you know what I mean! Over the course of this blog I plan on writing reviews for different professional journal articles because I know that many educators do not have time to research, read, and then document the articles to save for later! It is also planned to have a basic survival guide to being a collegiate music educator. Since I'm going into my Sophomore year in August, I will be intertwining various things that I learned Freshman year into the blog as well. The main goal of this blog is for it to be a place that every student and educator can come here to read up on a well rounded "Survival Guide" for music education as a whole: teaching, performing, learning, whatever. If you'll stick with me throughout this journey, I guarantee it will pay off in the end...just bear with my writing skills for a little while please and don't forget: share this with your friends!
